This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of blood donors samples with syphilis reactivity and to describe the epidemiological profile, analyzing the frequencies according to gender, age, marital status, city of residence and type of donation in HEMOLAGOS/RJ, in the period from January 2013 to December 2015. This is a descriptive and exploratory study from data recorded in HemotePlus Information System. In this period we got 15,461 candidates for blood donation. Of these, 250 (2.13%) presented serologic reactive results for syphilis. It was observed that there was an average decrease of 25.3% of donors reactive for syphilis. The highest frequency of unfit donors for syphilis occurred in males (68.4%). The average age of the population of unfit donors was 41.52 years and standard deviation of 12.9 years. Of the donors unfit for syphilis, 96.0% lived in the municipalities that constitute the Lagos Region. The replacement donations model showed the highest percentage of unfit donors (68.8%). The results pointed out to a general profile of the donor population of Hemolagos/RJ with reactive samples for syphilis, highlighting the need for captation work with the candidates to the donation and the importance of receiving the reactive donor. Also points up the need to implement other processes of identification and treatment of disease in the population, and the need to evaluate the effectiveness of STD programs.Downloads
