Abstract

This study aimed to identify the aspects included in nursing consultation of hypertensive patients followed in the Family Health Strategy. This is a descriptive study, conducted in a Basic Health Unit in the Municipality of Maracanaú, metropolitan region of Fortaleza. The sample consisted of 100 hypertensive patients were interviewed using a structured instrument. The study was approved by the Ethics and Research of the State University of Ceará in number 09503262-2. The results revealed that 73% were female, 68% were aged between 40 and 69 years. It is observed that more than half of patients (96%) attend nursing consultation in less than six months, as compared to laboratory tests. According to respondents, the nurse asks examinations (55%) every three months, measures the blood pressure (97%), measures the waist circumference (50%), orientation on the diet (95%) and importance of physical activity (95 %) and conducts educational sessions (18%). In this study, it was realized how important the nursing consultation is, because the nurse guides regarding adherence to a low sodium diet, regular physical activity, smoking cessation and alcohol consumption.
