MUSCLE STRENGTH IN RELATION RESPIRATORY AND AGE IN ELDERLY COEXISTENCE GROUPS OF PARTICIPANTS

This study aims to identify the relationship between respiratory muscle strength and age in elderly participants from community groups. It is a survey of the analytical type. The study sample consisted of 31idosos, aged 60 or more and of both sexes. Were assessed sociodemographic data, health problems, MIP and MEP · Revista Enfermagem Contemporânea. 2015 Jan./Jun.;4(1):33-38 · 34 (evaluated according to the Pulmonary Function Tests). Results: It was found, females (67.7%), single (a) (64.5%), aged ? 74 years (64.5%) and health problems (90.3%). According to the respiratory capacity, the mean values of MIP was 55.6 (±21.0) cmH20 and MEP was 71.3 (±22.0) cmH20 Conclusion: The findings in this study reveal that the age group It is directly related to reduced muscle strength, MIP and MEP in both men and women.Downloads
