Abstract

The main goal of this study was to identify symptomatic dimensions of Burnout Syndrome among nursing staff working in an emergency room and reception. It was based on a quantitative and descriptive approach,  conducted in a public hospital midsize located in southwest of Bahia. The sample consisted of 27 nurses. To survey the information, a sociodemographic questionnaire, elaborated by our research group and Malasch Burnout Inventory (the scale proposed in 1981 to identify the Burnout Syndrome), was applied. The data were analyzed in Excel 2014 program and presented in chart for both absolute numbers and percentage. The results indicated that a significant share of workers has symptoms of Burnout Syndrome, in contrast to several studies. This study enabled us to verify the existence of nurses with symptoms of burnout syndrome, according to ours researcher parameters. The information gathered can help understand this phenomenon, especially when it is taken into consideration the profile, routine and emergency working conditions coupled with the continuous and prolonged exposure to these stressors.
