Abstract

In this work, which theme is Evaluation of the difference between retention and stability of total prostheses using anelastic and elastic materials in functional impression: A case report, elastic and anelastic materials used for functional impression in total prostheses were studied, evaluating the prerequisites retention and stability, aiming to recognize the material that presents greater advantages for daily use at dental clinics, where it presents a good manipulation, guarantees comfort for patients and presents a satisfactory functional final result. It was decided to perform this study amid clinical difficulties found and also reports about the difficulties in choosing a material, among so many, to perform functional impression, which is an essential step in making a dental prosthesis. Knowing the variety of these existing materials, a practical knowledge was searched, that indicated a material that could be chosen for this impression with more safety that presents at the end a dental prosthesis with great retention and stability. We performed a collection in a patient’s record where there were performed two total prostheses, where one used functional impression with an elastic material and the other one used an anelastic one. It is possible to notice in clinical practises that a great number of professionals use more elastic materials in impressions because of the advantages presented, which were lived in this study, with a better manipulation, handling, cleansing of waste and final results.
