Abstract

Multiple myeloma is a cancer that affects plasma cells in bone marrow, leading to abnormal production of protein, which is known as M-protein or monoclonal protein. Due to the fast proliferation of those cancer cells, those may be involving other areas besides bones such as kidneys and nervous system. The etiology of multiple myeloma has not been well elucidated yet. However, genetic abnormalities and ionizing radiation are considered as risk factors. Patients with multiple myeloma might show signs such as anemia, maxillofacial osteonecrosis, kidney disturbs, infections and bleeding, beyond complications associated with the treatment. This current study aims to report a case of multiple myeloma and present aspects related to maxillofacial involvement and its treatment, as well as understand the conducts of the dentist front of this neoplasia.
