The literature suggests that the main factors that motivate the patient to seek treatment later accept orthognathic surgery are clear and consistent, and these: aesthetic improvement, functional improvement of the stomatognathic system and self-esteem. Therefore, the correct interpretation of patient expectations is essential for the establishment of an optimal treatment plan for each case, so as not to create expectations that cannot be met.
