Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Orthognathic surgery performed to correct dental and facial deformities, and becomes extremely relevant because in addition to the occlusion correction also benefits facial aesthetics. The literature suggests that the main factors that motivate the patient to seek treatment later accept orthognathic surgery are clear and consistent, and these: aesthetic improvement, functional improvement of the stomatognathic system and self-esteem. Therefore, the correct interpretation of patient expectations is essential for the establishment of an optimal treatment plan for each case, so as not to create expectations that cannot be met.
