Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the sociodemographic profile and the most common risk factors in elderly patients with heart failure of an intensive care unit, through a retrospective study with a quantitative approach, performed in a pubic hospital in Salvador/BA . Methods and Materials: Data were collected by consulting on medical records of individuals admitted in the year 2015, over 60, who spent 24 hours or more in the unit. Results: After two months of evaluation, we obtained a sample of 35 medical records of elderly patients with HF. The results show that most seniors are male (62.9%), aged 65 to 69 (37.1%), mixed race / color (45.7%) and incomplete primary education (37,1%). The most frequent risk factors were hypertension (77.1%) and diabetes (34.2%). Conclusion: The characterization of the epidemiological profile is essential to propose effective care practices and ensure an effective control of the disease.
