Introduction: Degenerative shoulder disease affects a large amount of people and along with rotator cuff lesions it represents the main indication for shoulder arthroplasty in severe cases. Objective: the aim of this paper is to present a case of a patient submitted to reverse shoulder prosthesis in the right upper extremity and the results of a physiotherapeutic rehabilitation program. Method. Data were collected by interviewing the patient while presenting for treatment and by means of charts as well. We assessed pain evaluation, function, muscle strength using the UCLA score and present a physiotherapeutic proposal of treatment of these cases. Results: The rehabilitation program proposed the use of therapeutic ultrasound and isometric exercise for muscles strengthening. The results of the UCLA score before and after the rehabilitation program progressed from poor (11 pints) to good (33 points). Conclusions: In the presented case, the reverse prosthesis associated to a good rehabilitation program which emphasized an adequate prosthesis function, muscle strengthening, increased shoulder range of motion and, above all, the global functionality. This program showed to be a promising alternative that can improve daily life activities and quality of life of patients submitted to reverse shoulder arthroplasty.
