FUNCTIONAL EFFECTS OF MYOFASCIAL RELEASE TECHNIQUE IN PATIENTS WITH GONARTHROSIS

Introduction: The impact of gonarthrosis may cause negative impact on functioning of the individual, inability employment and sedentary lifestyle. So, such circumstances tend to generate negative socio-economic consequences both for these individuals such as the family and therefore for the country. Moreover, with the trend of population aging, it is likely that this disease is more prevalent. Due to these factors, it is important to invest in research and beneficial treatments to patients with gonarthrosis, such as Myofascial Release. Objective: Describe functional repercussions of the myofascial release in patients with gonarthrosis. Methodology: The longitudinal clinical trial included patients with gonarthrosis of a physiotherapy clinic. These were submitted to a protocol Myofascial Release for nine sessions, during thirty minutes each, two times per week. The functionality of these individuals was assessed through a specific questionnaire (KOOS) before and after of the scheduled sessions. Results: After the protocol of the Myofascial Release there was significant difference in the areas of the questionnaire (symptoms (P=0,006), pain (P=0,002), activities of daily living (P=0,002), sports and leisure (P=0,007), in addition of the life quality (P=0,013). Conclusion: Myofascial Release favors to improved functionality in patients with gonarthrosis.Downloads
