JOB SATISFACTION OF ORAL HEALTH AUXILIARIES OF A SOUTHWEST TOWN OF BAHIA

Abstract

Objective: to analyze the degree of job satisfaction of dental assistants of the private and public sectors of a small city in southwest of Bahia. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 43 individuals, 16 of the public sector and 28 private sector. A questionnaire that analyzes five factors related to specific dimensions of individual satisfaction with your work was used, taken into consideration: interpersonal relationship, salary, leadership, task nature and promotions. Data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. Results: Among the interviewed prevailing females (100%), aged between 26-35 years (32.6%), full high school education degree (67.4%), with 5 to 10 years of experience (32.6%) and no registry in the Regional Council of Dentistry (76.7%). Overall, there was a greater satisfaction for interpersonal relationship and leadership and less to salary. The professionals aged 18 to 25 were more satisfied than others with higher age in relation to the leadership (p<0,05). To the dimension promotions, unregistered professionals in Regional Council of Dentistry showed higher satisfaction than those with registration (p<0,05). Conclusion: The dental assistants of private sector were more satisfied about all studied dimensions, and the salary was the main factor of dissatisfaction among the interviewees.
