Abstract

The imaging methods provide both a differential diagnosis and the direction of the appropriate clinical behavior. This way, the study has as goal to compare the two methods, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance and their techniques for the diagnosis of strokes in acute and hiperacute phase. Materials and Methods: A Non-symmetric review of literature was made based on researches of scientific articles, on data bases PUMED, SCIELO, CAPES portal and data from the Ministry of Health and also from the magazines indexed on the portals. Results and Discussion: CT is the first method of choice to distinguish the ischemic stroke from the hemorrhagic stroke. The RM , using the Diffusion Sequence and FLAIR, are capable of quickly identify the ischemic penumbra and the irreversible zone. Both AngioTC and AngioRM allow to locate the clogged vessel with more accuracy and the Perfusion by TCRM evaluate the functionality of the blood flux. Conclusion: The decision of the best method fluctuates according to the patient state and the time spent since the beginning of the stroke. However, each technique present advantages and disadvantages, being necessary more studies that compare the methods, offering measures of precision between the techniques.
