Introduction: The study of the relationship between the work of the physiotherapist and the burnout syndrome is a challenge to understand the health-disease process of this professional, being little known in national and international literature. Objective: To describe the scientific papers in the literature about prevalence of burnout syndrome and associated factors among physiotherapists. Methods: The BVS journal portal was used, in which databases are included: MEDLINE (PubMed), LILACS and IBECS, considering the period from January 1980 to March 2016. Inclusion criteria were: studies with physiotherapists, original, with cross-sectional, population and / or sample, which used the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for identify the syndrome. Results: Of the 35 studies found that addressed burnout syndrome in the physiotherapist category, 13 studies were eligible for review, because they fit the inclusion criteria. Final considerations: The results observed in the existing scientific literature revealed a heterogeneous prevalence of findings and factors associated with burnout in physiotherapist. The results showed that there is no consensus in the literature for the interpretation of Maslach questionnaire. It was noted the adoption of various cutoff points for the definition of the three burnout dimensions. It is suggested the adoption of a consensual interpretation of the results of the Maslach questionnaire and the use of standard cutoff points to define the dimensions of the syndrome.
