Abstract

Introduction: In recent years chronic renal failure has been considered a public health problem due to the extension of its prevalence and the impact on the individuals affected life's quality. This pathology is a progressive and irreversible gradual degeneration of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), characterized by the deterioration of the nephron's functionality which leads up to major impacts on the organic systems, especially the respiratory system. The dialytic treatment is able to prolong the life of these patients, however, it does not avoid some damages triggered by the pathological condition and treatment itself. Objective To evaluate the values of the Forced Vital Capacity in patients with chronic renal failure in dialysis treatment Methods: This is an analytical cross-sectional study, exploratory analysis, and quantitative approach. A sociodemographic questionnaire was applied and then the FVC analysis was obtained through a portable digital MIR brand spirometer. Results: 77% of the studied samples presented a FVC reduction in relation to normal values. Crossing related to severity of chronic kidney disease and forced vital capacity was significant (p = 0.00) hence presenting a positive correlation demonstrating that the lower the GFR is, the lower is the FVC value. It was then demonstrated by a statistically significant correlation that there is an impact on vital capacity over dialysis time (p = 0.03). Conclusion: Nephropathies in dialysis treatment have a reduction in FVC, and both the time and severity of the disease generates negative impact on the disease.
