Construction of an itinerary for the implementation of Therapeutic Accompaniment (TA) at the Psychosocial Care Centers II in Vitória da Conquista: logistical and subjective aspects

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: By recognizing the impossibility of understanding the individual without considering the multiple interactions established within the spheres in which they are embedded, it becomes essential to understand the environment as an object of investigation, reflection, and, when appropriate, transformation. In this sense, by conceiving the environment as a space capable of producing and transforming meanings into lived experiences, Therapeutic Accompaniment (TA) emerges as a viable approach for the development and enhancement of the therapeutic process. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to present the environmental attributes present in urban itineraries that may influence the development of TA based on a Psychosocial Care Center II (Centro de Atenção Psicossocial - CAPS II) in the city of Vitória da Conquista, located in the state of Bahia, Brazil. METHODOLOGY: A methodological approach was adopted that combined direct and indirect observation of the environment, with the goal of mapping and constructing pleasant itineraries. RESULTS: The results revealed a deficit of restorative environments in the analyzed urban territory, indicating limitations in environmental quality for the development of TA. It was possible to identify and evaluate environmental patterns as either suitable or unsuitable for inclusion in Therapeutic Accompaniment routes. DISCUSSION: The territory, as a social and symbolic construction, influences individuals’ possibilities of circulation and appropriation, being affected by urban dynamics such as insecurity and sensory overload, which restrict the therapeutic potential of interventions. CONCLUSION: Environments that convey a sense of welcoming, well-being, and calmness were found to be limited, pointing to the need to critically examine the relationship between the geographic location of the CAPS and the environmental conditions of the territory in which it is situated. Additionally, subjective aspects emerge as central elements in the construction and adaptation of therapeutic itineraries, requiring consideration of users’ needs and the concrete conditions of territorial feasibility.
