TEACHERS’ STRESS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Discussing the importance of School Psychology as an area which bears the promotion of health to the relations of work at school, this paper is a narrative literature review whose goal was investigate the place of this proposal in scientific publications in this field of knowledge. This paper turns, specially, to issues related to teachers’ temporary retirement, as well as indicatives of technical actions of the psychologist close to this audience, focusing on the promotion of occupational health and the prevention of getting sick at school. It has been found that Stress and Burnout Syndrome are the main reasons for temporary retirement of these professionals, according to literature. Hence it has been realized the claiming for actions on the way of promoting better work conditions and mental health for the teachers. However, little has been registered about the School Psychologist’s practices in support of health promotion for these professionals, though some simple and low cost actions have been suggested. A compilation of these suggestions is presented in the end of this study and so can provide basis for practical proposals for occupational stress in the school context.Downloads
