THE PSYCHOLOGISTS IN SUAS: MOBILIZING RESOURCES FOR ACTION WITH SOCIAL COMMITMENT

This article aims to reflect on the inclusion of psychology in social assistance in order to enhance resources and information necessary for the establishment of a consolidated performance in “social commitment”. Therefore, it will discuss the Brazilian social reality in his character of strong social inequality, presenting the historical conditions for the establishment of the Single Social Assistance System (SUAS) as a public policy that intends to confront this reality. It will also resume the path of construction of psychology as a science and profession, in which live ethical and political projects distinct, who value commitment to the elites or the transformation of Brazilian social reality, and are expressed in vocational training, nourishing values and different practices. Based on a survey carried on psychologists that work in SUAS, reflections will be presented about resources and information necessary for the establishment of a consistent performance in social work, able to translate the commitment of psychology with the transformation of Brazilian reality. Reflections that a)point to the recognition of the complexity of the performance of this professional in SUAS, placing the importance of the production of new work methods, especially those that work with Group activities b) focus on interdisciplinary training c) emphasize the importance of the psychologists produce critical and complex readings on the Brazilian social reality, marked by strong inequality, considering that thoughts guides both actions and meanings the psychologists uses to explain the phenomena. That is, in the reading of reality that these professionals produce we find the limits, the potential, and so to speak, the horizon in which their interventions will be built.
